NYCOS National Boys Choir is releasing an album of commemorative song-suite All Those Men Who Marched Away (2016). Recorded in this centenary year marking the end of the First World War, by the choir under its conductor Christopher Bell, the recording includes a narration from singer Jamie MacDougall. The powerful cantata was written by composer Ken Johnston and lyricist Jim Maxwell and tells the tales of the troops from their early optimism and hopes of being home for Christmas to the remembrance of the fallen soldiers.
Composer Ken Johnston said: “Jim Maxwell and I have a shared interest in the First World War and were very keen to collaborate on a new suite of songs for the centenary commemorations. We were delighted when Christopher Bell agreed to give the first performance of All Those Men Who Marched Away in 2016 with the superb NYCOS National Boys Choir. That very successful performance was followed, this year, by further performances and a very moving recording of the piece.”
Artistic Director and conductor Christopher Bell said: “The performance was such a powerful and memorable event, especially as the ages of some of the older singers is similar to many of those soldiers from World War One.”
The CD is now available for sale and is also available on major download and streaming platforms such as iTunes, Google Play, Amazon Music, Deezer and Spotify.
