Bachtrack has released its annual Classical Music Statistics for 2019 from almost 35,000 performances worldwide. James MacMillan and Eric Whitacre are listed in the top 10 contemporary composers, in third and seventh place respectively.
Both composers will feature in NYCOS’ upcoming album release on 8 May with Signum Records. Conducted by Christopher Bell, the National Youth Choir of Scotland is joined by the Royal Scottish National Orchestra for the premiere recording of MacMillan Cantos Sagrados in the orchestral version. The album includes Whitacre Leonardo Dreams of His Flying Machine and his incredibly moving early triumph When David Heard.
Bachtrack also notes a slow yet steady increase of women listed amongst the top composers. In 2020 NYCOS is supporting Multitude of Voyces with the release of its second volume containing 23 works by diverse women composers. Performances by NYCOS National Girls Choir will focus entirely on women composers including Elizabeth Poston, and commissions from Claire McCue and Dale Trumbore.
