FREE twilight music training opportunities for all early-year practitioners!
This twilight training session provides an overview of the new NYCOS Sounds Musical for Starters (SMfS) resource for Early Years (pre-school, P1, P2). SMfS explores the essential building blocks of musical learning which form the basis of reading readiness in music.
Explore music making with 3 – 6-year olds, and the concepts that can be put in place prior to any conscious learning of musical notation; If these concepts are caught in the early years, the reading and writing of music can be introduced later in a more meaningful way.
Concepts covered include steady beat, rhythm, dynamics, tempo, pitch matching, development of the inner ear, pitch (higher and lower), phrasing and timbre.
The session also explores how active participation in singing can have a positive effect on the child’s holistic development – particularly how singing can support language development.
As part of the NYCOS West Lothian YMI project, all participating schools/ nurseries will receive teacher packs and PowerPoint slides including recordings/videos of all games. There are three packs which should cover musical learning outcomes – all linked to the CfE – for the whole school year (Early Level).
