National Youth Choir of Scotland alumni recently reunited to sing together for the first time in the choir’s history. Towards the end of NYCOS’ 25th Anniversary year, 85 singers met in Edinburgh to rehearse and perform Christmas carols. The performance will be broadcast on BBC One Scotland Reflections at the Quay on Christmas Day, 11am.
The rehearsal took place at St Cuthbert’s Church led by Mark Evans and the recording at Greyfriars Kirk was conducted by Artistic Director Christopher Bell. Christopher also conducted the newly established NYCOS Chamber Choir that morning for the BBC One Scotland Christmas Celebration. This will be broadcast on Christmas Eve, 11.45pm.
National Youth Choir of Scotland alumni have moved on to all walks of life since singing with the Choir, with many becoming professional singers, music practitioners and teachers. Some of those who attended were in the first ever NYCOS choir and reunited with friends they hadn’t seen in decades.
Hear what some of the alumni had to say during their morning rehearsal and look through the group photos taken on the day below. If you are a previous member of a NYCOS National or Regional Choir you can find out about future alumni events by signing up here.
